After the crazy holiday season I have been taking a lil vacation from music. However, now I am back in full force. This mix is a combination of some of my favorites, old and new. It also includes one of my older original tracks, “The Right Time”.

This month I was one of the featured DJs on the 11th Birthday show on the Progressive Channel of Digitally Imported Radio (www.di.fm.). It was an honor to take part in yet another milestone for DI. After 11 years DI has blossomed into a massive online music movement and it has been awesome watching it grow. Props to all the guys at DI that have worked so hard to make this happen. Thanks for letting me be a part of it! I hope that DI continues to grow and sees many more years to come!

Recently Adolfo Morrone released his 2nd EP on NuZone Gears. The EP is titled
“Veil Of Maya,” and it includes 3 original tracks in the relatively new progressive
sub genre entitled “Progressive Tech”. Earlier this year his EP “Prog O’Clock” came
out on Tendenzia Records and was a huge success internationally. Keep an eye on
this Italian producer/DJ because he has an extremely bright future.

I can’t believe that it has been 5 years since I started this show on Digitally Imported Radio (DI.FM). 61 episodes later and it is still going strong! Over the course of the last 5 years I have gradually changed in style and skill level and the journey has been awesome. Hosting Functional Parts really led me to discover my true sound as a DJ and producer. From Progressive House to Electro then to Progressive Tech, Tech House and finally an amalgamation of them all. My genre now is “Anything that is GREAT”. I try to keep an open mind and over the years the best Dance Music being made has shifted and evolved through many different sub-genres. I have had a blast riding the wave and changing with the times and I am truly excited to see where House goes next. So cheers to another 5 Years of Functional Parts and to the future of Dance Music as we know it!

This month I had 6 guests that have all contributed a lot to the show and are some of my favorite DJs/good friends.
Johan Nilsson (aka DJ Irish) is the man who made it possible for me to have this show in the first place. Not only is he a great Progressive House DJ but without him DI would not run so smoothly.
LRCN is the current admin of the Progressive House Channel alongside Johan. LRCN is a long time friend and absolutely amazing DJ. When I was 17 years old LRCN mentored me and taught me the ropes of spinning. Soon after he started teaching me.. I got seduced by the sounds of House music. Thanks to Larson for training me in the ways of the Jedi.
Storm Events is an event company that I started in the LA/Hollywood area with several of my favorite local DJs and friends. In the last year Storm Events has grown exponentially and the year will culminate in Storm Events opening for ATB and Gabriel & Dresden at The Palladium in Hollywood! Amazing how fast we have grown. So for my 5 year anniversary I decided to showcase the talent that the Storm DJs have to offer.
Zan has provided many excellent mixes for my show over the last couple years and I am looking forward to hearing what he brings this month. He is an extremely badass DJ and I have enjoyed tagging with him on many occasions – including opening for Sultan together at The Standard in Downtown LA.

Sinjun is my co-producer, good friend and fellow Storm resident. We have produced many tracks together as well as his solo projects – recently released on Nueva Digital and Kroton Sound. He has also provided many excellent sets for FP and I can’t wait to see what he has in store for this month.
Skitch became obsessed with mixing in the last couple years and in a short time has gone from just starting out – to being an absolutely unstoppable force on the decks. The mix he provided was performed on the fly and is definitely one of his best mixes yet (and one of my favorite overall mixes of 2010). Dark and chunky with a hint of industrial sounds – this mix kicks ass!
Michel Doga – Our honorary Storm DJ from Spain. Holding down the decks for 15 years now – this guy is absolutely INSANE with his skill. I’m rarely impressed by mixes, but this guy managed to blow my mind.

DubVision (Baroque | Rococo):
DubVision, based in the Netherlands, is an upcoming producer / DJ duo. Providing dancefloors with energetic tunes, DubVision has a very promising future. Dubvision consists of two Dutch brothers, Victor Volt and Stephen Noque. Their passion for music has led to great tracks, getting a lot of support at the moment. They are known for their uplifting melodies and big beats. With a style varying from progressive, tech-house, to sweet house tunes, the duo covers a broad dance floor market. Remember the name, cause you’ll be hearing it a lot.

Since then, Randy has toured with Psy-Trance megastars, Infected Mushroom, playing over 30 shows with them around the world (from Quito, Ecuador to Bangalore, India and everywhere in between). As one could expect, touring with Infected Mushroom has opened many doors for Randy, including headlining at Body Language in Syracuse, New York as well as warming up for M.A.N.D.Y. & Sandra Collins at Autocinemas Las Torres in Monterrey, Mexico. These experiences have allowed him to carve out his own unique blend of progressive music. Randy is about exploring the unknown; it is what makes him thrive.

Ben Brown is a progressive house producer reigning from Chicago, Illinois. During the last few years Ben has put out releases on several well known labels including Global Underground, Audio Logic Recordings, Frisky Records, Black Hole Recordings, Nine Records, Sick Watona and many more. Keep an eye out for his new label Melt Recordings, which should be making a massive debut soon. Aside from Ben’s phenomenal productions, he is also a world class DJ. During his residency at Skybar in Chicago, he has had the opportunity to open for many top acts including Matt Darey, Ned Shepard, 16 Bit Lolitas, SOS and more.

My mix for FP this month is titled “Static Summer”. I called it this because the summer is coming to an end, and we all wish that the summer would never end. A perpetual summer… static in its place, would be absolutely ideal! Many momentous things occurred this summer, including seeing my first releases on beatport.com, The Macarena bootleg’s huge success and several amazing gigs with my event company Storm Events. It’s no wonder that I don’t want this summer to end! This month on Functional Parts, as a tribute to all the tracks that have been rocking the dancefloor, I decided to go for a bouncy uplifting/driving house feel throughout the mix.

Local Los Angeles based DJ Dave Jin is quickly moving up the ranks of local DJs. Recently he has been playing at the famous Hollywood and Highlands nightclub. With a fast-paced mixing style – blending progressive house and trance elements, Dave keeps he dance floor moving.
The mix I provided this month “Midnight In Morocco,” is a bit on the techy side. I have been really enjoying this more funky side of tech-house recently. I also enjoy blending all the sub-genres of house together in a seamless manor – so while trying to find good new prog house this month… and not succeeding – I decided to incorporate some of the great tech-house gems that I have discovered recently into a set. The set builds and builds into a crescendo with some electro house and finally ends blissfully with a classic progressive trance track by Mango. Playing on the techy side of house this month also gave me a chance to play my new bootleg remix of “The Macarena”. Due to the massive demand for this track – I have decided to make a DUB version (no vocal, with a larger buildup) – which should be available for download in the next few weeks on my Soundcloud. I am also preparing for a massive gig this Sunday at The Standard Hotel, Downtown LA. I will be debuting my new remix of “Ace Of Base – Cruel Summer” at this event, make sure to keep checking my Twitter and Youtube pages for the teaser video which will be posted tomorrow (Saturday, August 21st).
