Functional Parts episode 072 ’6-Year Anniversary’ w/ guests Andrey Mikhailov & Carey Davila (October 2011).

For the 6 Year Anniversary of Functional Parts I decided to do a short retrospective of the last 7 years of my Radio DJ career.

The first mix that aired on my show is my first official Progressive House Demo. It was recorded about 7 years ago LIVE on CDJs. This mix got me my own radio show on www.DI.FM, as well as a residency at Spundae when it was still at Circus Disco (The hottest club in Hollywood at the time). The mix is titled Electric Funk.

Functional Parts episode 071 w/ guests Inkfish & Randy Seidman (September 2011).

For my mix this month I was channelling all of the inspiration, energy and happiness I received from my experience at Burning Man 2011. I am extremely happy with how it turned out. The tracks just kind of fell into my lap and the track order worked out great. I move from tech-house into progressive house… and then into electro house… and finally conclude blissfully with progressive trance. However, genres are irrelevant! It is just great music. I hope you enjoy this journey through sound as much as I enjoyed making it.

I was fortunate this month to have two massively successful guests. Inkfish and Randy Seidman. In the next paragraphs I briefly describe their careers so far.

☆☆Inkfish [Inkfish Recs, DK records, Jee Productions, West & Sumplus} ☆☆
The production/DJ Inkfish sprang to life in 1998, when the four Swedish mates Mattias Lindblom, Jesper Lindquist, Andreas Hermansson and Johan Hermansson joined forces. Dishing out a variety of electronic music over the last ten years, the quartet has established themselves firmly within the scene. Together with David West they also have been recording as De Nada, Synergy & Pharmacy of Sound. Inkfish has done dj-mixes for BBC Radio One and loads of stations world wide and are playing all over the world. The boys are also residents for Renaissances parties in Olso, Norway. Getting remixed by artists like Taking care of business behind the turntables you..ll find the two brothers Johan and Andreas. They provide a soundtrack of groovy progressive tracks with elements of tribal and tech. They are well known to rock the dance floors wherever they appear. Their reputation has so far taken them to over 30 countries worldwide. With 70 releases you will find loads of big tracks and remixes by artists like D Ramirez, Steve Angello, Sebastian Leger & David West. Recent works include the Inkfish remix of Nils Noa - Monkey Break and Hello Piano both reaching the top 10 on Beatports main chart. During the last month they had several tracks in top 20 on beatports main charts. They run their own Sumplus & Tolerant-labels, which is co-runned with Martin H and David West and had artists on their labels such as Chus, Kosmas Epsilon, Cid Inc( Mashtronic), Style of eye and many more. Being around since 1998 there is no doubt that Inkfish is a heavyweight in the underground clubscene.

☆☆Randy Seidman [Open House Podcast] [Fatali Music]☆☆

Since 2007, Randy has toured with trance megastars, Infected Mushroom, playing over 100 shows with them around the world (from Ecuador to India, Mexico to Russia, Canada to Ibiza, and places in between). This has allowed Randy to carve out his own unique blend of progressive music that has caught the ears of many.

Additionally, Randy has had the honor of playing at some of the world’s biggest clubs and festivals including: Privilege in Ibiza, Kapital Festival in Ecuador, Caffeine Festival & Beta Nightclub as well as the legendary Church Nightclub in Denver, Guvernment in Toronto, Insomniac’s Nocturnal Festival in Austin, and three times at the Miami Winter Music Conference for Ultra Music Festival.

Randy’s versatility has enabled him to share the stage with such well-known DJs as Kaskade, Ferry Corsten, Cosmic Gate, Benny Benassi, Gabriel & Dresden, Christopher Lawrence, Sandra Collins, Astrix, Steve Porter, Morgan Page, Rank 1, Second Sun, M.A.N.D.Y, Chuck Love and Colette, to name just some…

Andrey Mikhailov Presents Electronic Journey episode 052 Ray Mack Guest Mix (April 2011).

This month I was a guest on my buddy Andrey Mikhailov’s radio show Electronic Journey on www.16bit.fm. Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of older progressive house that has funky yet uplifting beats and melodies. The mix I did for Andrey’s show is a carefully crafted Journey through some seriously badass tunes from the last few years. The mix is constructed into a tightly jam packed hour of pure fun and exaltation. Functional Parts episode 066 (April 2011).

When I was putting together this mix I was in the middle of remastering my new tracks Hot Pursuit and my Cruel Summer remix. When I get into this mode, my ear becomes extremely sensitive to the quality of the mastering done to the music I’m listening to. So while browsing through tunes, I was inevitably leaning towards tracks that are extremely well mastered. Because of this, I decided to do a tribute to some of my favorite driving progressive house tracks that are mastered well. The mix consists of 10 tracks packed full of glistening pads, destructively punchy basslines and chords that bite and stab you.

This month I had my good friend Andrey Mikhailov on the show. Andrey hosts the awesome progressive house radio show “Electronic Journeys” on www.16bit.fm. Next Friday, April 22nd I will be a guest on Andrey’s show, so don’t miss out! It airs at 11pm PST and again at 2am on Saturday the 23rd. Thanks for being on the show Andrey! Loved the mix. Functional Parts episode 064 (February 2010).

Been a few months since I’ve made a mix with entirely new tracks. However, that time has arrived and it came out quite funktastic if I do say so myself. I debut 2 new productions in this mix. Definitely my 2 favorite tracks so far this year. 1st track 6 in the mix is a track I produced with Sinjun titled “Loompa”. It is a rendition of the Oompa Loompa song from the original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie. I have been destroying dancefloors with this track recently and I am quite proud of how it turned out. Next on track 7 is my new solo production, “Hot Pursuit”. The track is driving and funky with a haunting vocal that builds throughout the track. Oompa Loompa will be released soon as a bootleg and will be free for all! Keep an eye out for it. Enjoy.
